Junior School Uniform - Shopping Tips for Little Ones

In this article, we look at how to keep your little one looking smart and feeling comfortable at school. We look at how to keep school uniform shopping costs down and how to make uniform last longer.

Shop as They Go

When your little one is starting a new school year or making the transition from nursery to primary, it can be tempting to go a little crazy with the school shop. However, shopping in excess will only hurt your wallet. Instead of buying everything at once, start with a few school basics and build their school wardrobe as they go. 3 School shirts, two pairs of trousers/skirts and one school jumper is plenty for those first couple of weeks back.

Personalise It

Personalising school uniform is always a good idea for young children. Write their name inside the label or stitch their initials in a small, inconspicuous place to help them keep track of their belongings.

Buy (Slightly) Bigger

Young children grow fast! so much so that sometimes it may seem as you can't keep up with them! When buying shirts, go slightly bigger than their current size to give them room to grow and help them feel more comfortable. Comically long sleeves and trouser legs are a no-no though. Don't buy based on age; instead round up to their nearest size based on measurement. Go for elasticated waists and adjustable sizing wherever possible!

Hold Off on Buying Specific Items

Before you go shopping for additional school uniform items like P.E kit, outerwear and accessories, make sure you know the schools regulations. While its nice to be prepared, some schools are stricter than others when it comes to uniform rules so it pays to wait before buying specific items. Some schools are also more flexible in their rules and may require a simple short and t shirt for P.E, so hold off before buying one in their schools specific colour.

Identical Socks Only

If there's one laundry related woe we can all agree on, it's the frustration felt when socks go missing. No matter how careful you are when it comes to keeping track of socks theres always those pesky few that go missing! Make sure your kids wardrobe is equipped with identical socks only, that can all be paired with one another - one less worry for busy school mornings!

Go Easy Iron

Look for easy iron and non iron fabrics and save yourself the headache of Sunday night ironing. These fabrics are also great for helping little ones stay looking smart throughout the day.
