Autumn Uniform Checklist

Autumn is finally upon us, and while you may have already stocked up on most of your 'back to school' gear that nippy autumn air can sometimes take us by surprise! Thankfully, our autumn school uniform checklist is here to help you make sure your youngster is prepared for all the chilly autumn days to come.

Thick Tights

if your child wears a school skirt, either by choice or as part of your schools uniform code then there's only one thing to help them keep warm on the school run and in the playground: thick tights! Fleece lined and thermal tights are the best option for cold weather but if you can't get your hands on those just yet, look for tights with at least a 70 denier. Doubling up on tights is also an option!

Blazer-Accommodating Coat/Jacket

If your child wears a blazer to school, make sure you take it with you when school coat shopping! the coat should fit around the blazer without restricting your child or making them feel uncomfortable. If you're buying online, order in accordance with measurements, not age. If you're between sizes, go for the bigger of the two.

School Fleece

A fleece is a great layering garment that's perfect for throwing over school uniform and providing extra warmth under a coat. Autumn weather can also be a bit unpredictable so it means your child has an extra thin, yet warm outer layer to put on/take off depending on the weather. Some schools may also allow a fleece to be worn in the classroom if it is in the school's representative colour.

Jumper/Cardigan

Depending on your schools uniform code, your youngster may be required to wear a certain style of jumper or a cardigan for girls. If your school is more flexible that gives you better options to keep your kids warm as some styles can be warmer and even look smarter than others. High and round neck jumpers are great for trapping in heat and polo neck jumpers are even better. However if your school requires a v neck or even a cardigan for girls, look for something with a heavyweight knit, but not so thick that it can't be worn under a blazer or coat.
