Sticking to the rules

Throughout previous years there have been many debates surrounding school uniform. Is it necessary? Should it be compulsory? And just how much of an impact does it have on our children’s education? Most secondary and primary schools have now made school uniform compulsary, and each school holds it's own set of rules and regulations regarding uniform. sometimes school unifrom and the arguments surrounding it become so much of an issue the focus begins to drift from what is really important: education. We believe that the key to staying on track is to send our children and teens to school in uniform that won't flag any concerns with your school, while at the same time allowing your youngster to feel comfortable and confidant. Below we have conjured up a few tips and tricks to help achieve this.

Comfort is key

We believe that comfort can play a big part in how children function at school. If children are comfortable both physically and mentally when wearing their school uniform, it becomes less of a concern or distraction, and allows them to be more focused and alert in school time; however we also believe that looking presentable and smart at school is also important, and that comfort doesn’t always mean tracksuit bottoms and baggy tops. This is where school uniform plays an important part, while it is of course possible for children to look smart and presentable in the clothes that their parents choose, or that they choose themselves, the idea of uniform makes sorting out a formal outfit five days a week a  much easier task for both parents and students.

Sticking to the rules

Schools can be very strict regarding their uniform rules, and there have been many recent debates surrounding this issue. The best way to avoid your own child’s uniform becoming an issue is to read over your schools uniform guidelines before buying any school clothing and stick to them as best you can. Adolescents in particular often try and slightly bend the rules so that their uniform will suit their own particular style, or the fashionable trends within their peer groups. There are ways for your child to express their individual style and keep up with the fashion of their peers, without it flagging concerns with their teachers and thus becoming a distraction in what should be a learning environment.

During summer time the school that your child attends will most likely have a strong set of rules surrounding school skirts, often the main rule being that it be an appropriate length, the meaning of the word ‘appropriate’ is often then debated, usually by the students themselves, and what a student may think is an 'appropriate' length a teacher will disagree. To avoid this issue altogether the answer would probably be to stick to school trousers, but when the weather becomes warmer outside this option isn’t always the most comfortable. If you aren’t sure what an ‘appropriate’ school skirt length is ask your school for further information, they will be happy you asked before you purchase the school skirt rather than raising a cause for concern afterwards. Usually ‘appropriate’ length for a school skirt will be a knee length skirt. Our school skirts also come in different styles such as pleated school skirts, which allow movement for a comfortable fit, or fitted school skirts which stay in place all day, without the fear bunching up.

If your child’s school allows school shorts in warmer weather this is a fantastic way of keeping cool in a stuffy classroom. No doubt your school will have a set of rules surrounding school shorts, however our school shorts come in a range of colours and styles to make it much easier to stick to them. If your school doesn’t allow school shorts then school trousers can still be a comfortable option, the fit is the most important factor in choosing comfortable school trousers and our trousers of course range from XS to XL in both male and female styles.
