Let’s Keep Our Cool in Spring and Summer
Spring is fast approaching and of course summer is to follow, which means less of the gloves and scarves and more short sleeved shirts and shorts. When warmer weather comes around often school is the last place our kids want to spend their time, but if kids feel comfortable and confidant in what they’re wearing they are more likely to remain focused and happy whilst at school, even in hot weather.
Primary School
Primary School children are not especially known for being as concerned with their appearance as adolescents are. Particularly within the early stages of school life, kids will happily go a full day with grass stains on their trousers and poster paint splatters on their shirts, but this is not to mean that comfort isn’t key for happy kids, particularly when it comes to
spring and summer school uniform. Make sure your little one is kitted out with
short sleeved cotton shirts, cotton is fantastic for regulating body temperature and usually the classroom temperature isn’t the same as the temp in the playground, if it’s stuffy and hot a
short sleeved cotton shirt will help keep your little one comfortable. If your kids school likes to blast the air con, make sure they’re always equipped with a
cardigan or a light
sweatshirt, perfect to just throw on when the temperature drops.
It’s easy to forget the little things when it comes round to buying school uniform for the warmer weather, trainer socks are essential as thick woollies make their way out of the wardrobe, we also stock
gingham frill socks for girls, and will add a great finishing touch to a school outfit.
Skirts are an obvious go to when it comes to uniform for the warmer weather, and
pleated school skirts are ideal for younger children as they allow plenty of movement for active playground games, however our
school skirts do come in a range of designs. We also stock
school shorts in various styles as well as a range of colours, perfect for keeping your youngster cool as they run around the playground.
If the weather is unpredictable a
school pinafore can be an excellent choice,
pinafores make fantastic wardrobe staples as they offer slightly more warmth than a
summer dress and can be worn with
tights when the weather is cooler. We stock
pinafores in various styles and colours to suit every individual child and their school. Finally any girl’s primary school wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a
summer dress, it’s a good idea to have a few
summer dresses as they will be a life saver in a heat wave. Summer dresses are perfect for keeping your child comfortable and cool while allowing movement. Our
summer dresses require minimal ironing and of course come in a wide range of colours.
Secondary School
Despite what most people think, school uniform doesn’t need to be boring, the great thing about school uniform is that it’s very easy to mix and match garments. The average spring and summer school wardrobe should consist of comfortable
cotton polo shirts or classic
cotton school shirts ideally
short sleeved, and a
cardigan or
jumper depending on what personal preference is and what each school’s uniform rules are. Often when it comes to secondary school pinafores are not usually worn, however a
school skirt can be just as versatile, skirts can be worn with or without
tights depending on the weather and again school rules. School Skirts can be a great way of adding personal flare to a school outfit your child will want to choose a skirt they feel comfortable in, too short and they may feel self conscious, too long and they may be hot and uncomfortable. A
pleated skirt is great for adding dimension to a school outfit, whilst allowing movement for comfort; however we offer
skirts in variety of styles, lengths and colours.
Polo shirts are ideal for warmer weather, however if this isn’t part of your schools uniform a
button shirt or
School blouse will keep your kid cool and comfortable. Some schools require a
tie and top button fastening at all times, even in warmer weather so it’s essential that your kid’s
shirt allows room around the collar and is well fitting. Details on girl’s shirts like
collar detailing and fitted waists will add an element of style to a school outfit.
Boy’s school shirts don’t need to be baggy and oversized to allow comfort, get your child to find their true size with a tape measure rather than guessing and choose the correct fit. The key to feeling confidant in school uniform is to experiment slightly with different fits and styles, small details can make an outfit and adding variation to a school wardrobe will allow your child to feel less bored or frustrated with their uniform.
